Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
A first-generation college student is a student for whom neither parent or guardian has completed a four-year college or university degree from a US-based institution. 50% of first-generation students also come from low-income backgrounds, making them first-generation low-income (FGLI) students.
A first-gen+ individual is someone who identifies as first-generation plus any number of other identities! We use this term to recognize the multiple identities that can shape one's experience of being a first-generation college student or professional.
